Delhi rolls over Norfolk, 8-2

The Delhi Travellers had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-2 win over the Norfolk Rebels.

The win moved Delhi to down 2-0 in the best of seven series.

Jake Legein had two goals to lead the Travellers to victory. Legein scored at 5:59 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Delhi and again while on the power play 1:35 into the third to make the score 6-2 Delhi.

Norfolk's power play was ineffective against Delhi's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:43 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Travellers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and one major for 69 minutes in penalty time. Delhi had been averaging 46 minutes in penalties per game. The Travellers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 14 Norfolk power plays. Delhi forced the Rebels goalie Jeff Stillman to work between the pipes, taking 60 shots.

Delhi also got points from Mike DeCoene, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Brad Ward, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Harrison McRobert, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Corbit Morrison, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Derek Friesen, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Luke Friesen, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Delhi came via Trever Beihn, who had three and Travis Harper, Jordan DeGroote, and Taylor Hockley, who contributed one each.

Norfolk was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The Rebels surpassed its season average of 29 penalty minutes per game.

Norfolk was helped by Brad Hornby, who tallied one goal. Hornby scored 12:07 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Delhi. Andrew Patenaude assisted on the tally. Norfolk got a goal from Steve Parker as well. In addition, Norfolk received assists from Chris Murray and Dylan Heaslip, who each chipped in one.

Nick Heath turned away 27 pucks between the pipes for the Travellers. Delhi registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. The Travellers ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ethan Werger was ejected from the game. The Rebels' Stillman stopped 52 shots out of the 60 that he faced. For Norfolk, Patenaude was ejected from the game.
