Huge game by Vanderhulst boosts Mt.Brydges over Lucan, 7-4Tri-Town Ice Arena South Sun, Feb 19, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Mt.Brydges Bulldogs' Luke Vanderhulst had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 7-4 win over the Lucan Irish. Vanderhulst's tallies came on the power play at 53 seconds into the third period to make the score 5-2 Mt.Brydges and on the power play 7:28 into the third to make the score 7-3 Mt.Brydges.After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Lucan faces elimination next time out. The Irish were doomed by their poor performance on special teams, as Mt.Brydges was able to score five times while on the power play. Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 22 penalties during the game. The Bulldogs forced Lucan goalie Dylan Hoover to work between the pipes, taking 61 shots. Mt.Brydges' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Bulldogs finished with 28 penalty minutes. Mt.Brydges additionally got points from Adam Fletcher, who also racked up one goal and three assists and Jeff Kennedy, who also tallied one goal and two assists. David Wade also scored for Mt.Brydges. Other players who recorded assists for Mt.Brydges were Connor Dunn, who had three and Brady Verougstraete, Sam MacGee, and Ryan Battersby, who contributed one each. The Irish kept Mt.Brydges' goalie busy throughout the game, and Eric Steinman made 29 saves on 33 shots. Lucan could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Jordan Vanderwel, who totaled six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Irish were led by Brock Welch, who registered one goal and one assist. Welch scored on the power play 17:56 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Lucan had gotten the advantage when the Bulldogs' Verougstraete was sent off for boarding. David Latta provided the assist. Lucan got a goal from Dylan Moss as well. More assists for Lucan came via Jake Flemington, who had one and Craig Liddle, who had two. Hoover recorded 54 saves for the Irish. Lucan registered three goals on six power play opportunities.
