Huge game by Vanderhulst boosts Mt.Brydges over Lucan, 7-2

Luke Vanderhulst was all over the ice for the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Mt.Brydges' 7-2 win over the Lucan Irish.

Vanderhulst found the back of the net 4:22 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Mt.Brydges and again while 12:48 into the second to make the score 4-2 Mt.Brydges.

The win gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Mt.Brydges' penalty kill excelled, as the Bulldogs gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Lucan was unable to stop Mt.Brydges from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bulldogs eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Mt.Brydges additionally got points from Grant Johns, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Jeff Kennedy, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Mt.Brydges included Nate Cross, who had one and Mike Neely, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Mt.Brydges were Brady Verougstraete, who had two, Adam Fletcher, who had three, and Billy Young and Doug Carter, who each chipped in one.

The Irish could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Craig Liddle, who totaled six minutes in penalty time with three minors.

Lucan was helped by Jordan May, who tallied two goals. May scored the first of his two goals at 18:39 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jake Flemington provided the assist. May's next tally made the score 3-2 Mt.Brydges with 14:54 left in the second period. A cross checking penalty on Vanderhulst had put the Irish on the power play. Flemington assisted on the tally.
