Huge game by Corkum boosts Lambeth over Port Stanley, 7-2

The Lambeth Lancers' Tyson Corkum had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 7-2 win over the Port Stanley Sailors.

Corkum found the back of the net 1:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lambeth and again while 11:38 into the first to make the score 3-0 Lambeth.

After the loss made the series score 1-3 in the best of seven series, Port Stanley faces elimination next time out.

The Sailors' power play was ineffective against Lambeth's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Lancers made Sailors' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 47 shots and forcing 40 saves. Brandon Garner made seven stops and Kyle Parker made 33. Lambeth put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Port Stanley to score on any of its 11 power plays. The Lancers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Lambeth finished with 32 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Conor Chilvers, who totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one misconduct.

Lambeth also got points from Mitch Thomas, who also registered one goal and one assist and Rob Ruggiero, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Lambeth also had goals scored by Mike Golinowski, who had one and Greg Douglas, who had two. In addition, Lambeth received assists from Alec Cooke, who had two and Nick West, Nick North, Mitch Furlonger, and Cole Chilvers (APM), who each chipped in one.

The Sailors were helped by Lucas Knight, who tallied one goal. Knight scored 16:02 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Lambeth. Taylor Schram provided the assist. Port Stanley got a goal from Luke McGuire as well. Other players who recorded assists for Port Stanley were Chris O Brien, who had one.

The Lancers' JP Trudell stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Lambeth registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Port Stanley incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
