Walkerton beats Wingham 3-2 after comeback scare

The Wingham Ironmen tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Walkerton Hawks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Andy Mitchell put Walkerton up 3-1 in the third period, but Wingham pulled to within one on Travis Donaldson's tally 18:27 into the third period.

The win by the Hawks clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.

Walkerton was led by Mitchell, who had one goal. Mitchell scored 13:11 into the third period to make the score Walkerton. Brad Humberstone assisted on the tally.

The Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Walkerton could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Hawks put an average of six pucks into the net per game. Walkerton's offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 31 shots put on the Ironmen's net.

Walkerton got a goal from Jordan Turcotte as well. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Eric Lekun, Matt Hill, and Haden Campbell, who contributed one each.

The Hawks were unable to stop Wingham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Ironmen eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Steve Hutchison also scored for Wingham. More assists for Wingham came via Aaron Armstrong, Graham Ashcroft, and Tyler Kellum, who each chipped in one.

Jeff Flagler turned away 37 pucks between the pipes for Walkerton. The Hawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Jeff Puddephatt recorded 28 saves for Wingham. The Ironmen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
