Milton wins tough contest against Burlington, 3-2

The Milton Icehawks gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Burlington Cougars.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Tyler Liboiron secured the win for Milton with a goal in the third period.

With the win, the Icehawks evened the series at 1-1 in the best of five showdown.

Milton was led by Charles Williams, who racked up one goal and one assist. Williams scored on the power play 10:43 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Milton. The Icehawks earned a power play opportunity when Dan Lomas was put in the box for hooking. Spencer Gourlay picked up the assist.

Milton put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Burlington to score on any of its five power plays. The Icehawks' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 31 shots put on the Cougars' net.

Burlington kept Milton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Denny Dubblestyne made 49 saves on 51 shots.

Joshua Decosta also scored for Milton. In addition, Milton received assists from Kane Elliot and Kyle Cecchetto, who each chipped in one.

The Cougars were helped by Brett Coulson, who had one goal. Coulson scored 3:10 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Milton. Lomas provided the assist. Burlington got a goal from Michael Crocock as well. More assists for Burlington came via Mark Rodgers and Shane Conacher, who contributed one each.

The Icehawks stifled Burlington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Milton incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Alex Murray turned away 28 pucks between the pipes for the Cougars. Burlington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
