Carey nets hat trick, leads Toronto to 7-3 win over North York

Matt Carey lifted the Toronto Junior Canadiens to a 7-3 victory with a hat trick against the North York Rangers.

Carey notched his first tally 15:10 into the first period. He then added goals at 7:14 into the second and at 14:42 into the second.

With the win, Toronto evened the series at 1-1 in the best of five showdown.

North York fell victim to a deadly the Junior Canadiens power play, which ripped the Rangers for four goals.

Toronto put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow North York to score on any of its six power plays. The Junior Canadiens' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 32 shots put on the Rangers' net. Toronto's goal total was higher than its season average. The Junior Canadiens average four goals per game.

Toronto additionally got points from Greg Whittle, who also finished with one goal and one assist, David Friedmann, who also grabbed one goal and three assists, Carey, who also finished with three goals and one assist, and Bryson Cianfrone, who also registered one goal and one assist. Toronto got a goal from Mike Mirabelli as well. In addition, Toronto received assists from Michael Whiteside, Matt Galati, and Jordan Ramsay, who contributed one each and Daniel Lombardi and Joseph Santino, who each chipped in two.

North York was led by Chris Smith, who registered one goal and one assist. Smith scored 15:18 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Lukas Pozgay assisted on the tally. Adam Valadao also scored for North York. More assists for North York came via Danny Harquail, Ernesto Valente, Skyler Mota, and Nicholas Geiser, who contributed one each.

Toronto's Jamie Phillips stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Junior Canadiens incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Leo Podolsky made 25 saves for the Rangers on 32 shots. North York incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
