Saginaw Valley beats Southern Connecticut 11-4 as Leibinger gets hat trick

Adam Leibinger netted a hat trick to lead Saginaw Valley over Southern Connecticut, 11-4.

Leibinger got on the scoresheet 9:13 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:03 into the first and at 11:00 into the third.

Southern Connecticut was unable to stop Saginaw Valley from sending pucks towards the net, and Saginaw Valley eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Saginaw Valley surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Saginaw Valley averages 6.0 goals per game.

Saginaw Valley also got points from Ben Welch, who also tallied three goals and three assists and Jon Tibaudo, who also had one goal and four assists. Others who scored for Saginaw Valley included Dylan Welch, who had two and Chris Tibaudo and Mike McFarland, who each put in one. In addition, Saginaw Valley received assists from Steve Pelky and Scott Walter, who each chipped in one and Ryan Tempich, Ryan Satko, Robert Cathcart, and Zach Soulliare, who contributed two a piece.

Southern Connecticut kept Saginaw Valley's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joe Kirkland made 28 saves on 32 shots.

Southern Connecticut was helped by Jordan Knightly, who tallied one goal. Knightly scored 5:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Southern Connecticut. Nik Bakos assisted on the tally. Southern Connecticut additionally got points from Steve Rosenkrantz, who also registered one goal and one assist. Vince Berti also scored for Southern Connecticut. More assists for Southern Connecticut came via Joe Barnes and Kyle Amarone, who each chipped in one.

Saginaw Valley incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Southern Connecticut's Mike Frederico stopped 31 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Southern Connecticut incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
