Lumley leads Mooretown over Alvinston, 8-0

Behind a great game by Dan Lumley, who had two goals and three assists, the Mooretown Flags defeated the Alvinston Flyers, 8-0.

Lumley found the back of the net on the power play 1:22 into the third period to make the score 5-0 Mooretown and again while on the power play 8:32 into the third to make the score 7-0 Mooretown.

The win by Mooretown clinched the best of seven series at 4-0.

Andrew Ganter spearheaded the defensive effort for the Flags, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 34 saves for the shutout. The solid play of Ganter will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.89.

Mooretown forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. The Flags surpassed its season average of 31 penalty minutes per game. Mooretown forced opposing goalies to work and stay ready, ripping 45 shots and forcing 37 saves. Reid Rankin made 25 stops and James Morreau made 12. The Flags put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Alvinston to score on any of its 11 power plays. Mooretown surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Flags average five goals per game.

Others who scored for Mooretown included Alex Dawson and Adam Hayes, who scored one goal each and Cody Hardman and Aaron Schieman, who each put in two. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Mike Burns, who had three, Josh Teschke, McGregor Haddon, Calab Harse, Jeff Schroeter, and Andrew Sokol, who each chipped in one, and Kurtis Glowa and Jake Currie, who contributed two each.

The Flyers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 13 minors and three majors for 51 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 33 minutes per game Alvinston had been spending in the box. The Flyers forced Mooretown goalie Ganter to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Alvinston's penalty kill unit could not stop the Flags' power play, which converted on six of nine opportunities.

For Mooretown, Sokol was ejected from the game. For the Flyers, Dan Warner, Nick Newman, and Chris Edwards were ejected from the contest.
