Dresden downs Blenheim in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Josh Beatty gave the Dresden Kings a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Blenheim Blades when he scored 38 seconds into the extra period.

After the loss made the series score 1-3 in the best of seven series, Blenheim faces elimination next time out.

Although Dresden was up by as many as two goals in the second period, the Blades kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. Blenheim pulled to within 3-2 on a goal by Justin Rossignol at 10:07 in the third period.

The referees were busy during the game, as 16 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:14 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The the Kings penalty box was a busy place as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Dresden had been averaging 22 minutes in penalties per game.

Dresden additionally got points from Beatty, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Josh Clements also scored for Dresden. Other players who recorded assists for Dresden were Jim McKinlay, Jeff Vanrabaeys, Taylor Sisson, and Joel Kellam, who contributed one each and Dylan Mertz and Jesse Allen, who each chipped in two.

The Blades racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Blenheim surpassed its season average of 25 penalty minutes per game.

Blenheim also got points from Rossignol, who also grabbed two goals and two assists. Blenheim got a goal from Thomas Innes as well. More assists for Blenheim came via Bowe Shepley, Nathan Puchnatyj, Neven Wiebenga, John McKillop, and Trevor Sparks, who contributed one each.

Brent Paxton turned away 24 pucks between the pipes for the Kings. Dresden registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Kings ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jim Rouse was ejected from the game. Dylan Vanderpol made 23 saves for the Blades on 28 shots. Blenheim registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the Blades, Shepley was ejected from the game.
