Belle River beats Wheatley 4-3 after comeback scare

The Wheatley Sharks tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Belle River Canadiens held on for a 4-3 victory.

Belle River made the score 4-2 on a goal by Weston Gaul at 12:51 in the third period, and Wheatley got as close as 4-3 when Kurtis Ouellette scored 18:13 into the third period.

The win by the Canadiens clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.

Belle River was led by Nik Dobrich, who racked up one goal and one assist. Dobrich scored 6:21 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Belle River. Scott Chauvin provided the assist.

The Canadiens excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Belle River forced the Sharks goalie Marc Tremblay to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Belle River additionally got points from Branden Larocque, who also had one goal and one assist and Jason Koumaris, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Belle River received assists from Keith Maisonville and Chris DiNatale, who each chipped in one.

Wheatley kept the Canadiens' goalie busy throughout the game, and Zakk Olvin made 31 saves on 34 shots.

The Sharks were helped by Austin Fontaine, who tallied one goal. Fontaine scored 28 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-2. Riley Babkirk picked up the assist. Trevor Grieve also scored for Wheatley. More assists for Wheatley came via Jesse Martin, who had two and Brian Johnson and Sebastian Kanally, who contributed one each.

Belle River incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Marc Tremblay made 28 saves for Wheatley on 32 shots. The Sharks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
