Thorold beats Buffalo 8-2 as Mac Avoy gets hat trick

Mackenzie Mac Avoy lifted the Thorold Blackhawks to an 8-2 victory with a hat trick against the Buffalo Jr. Blades.

Mac Avoy got on the scoresheet 10:06 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:35 into the second and at 10:41 into the second.

Thorold kept Buffalo's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ian Shorthouse made 33 saves on 41 shots. The Blackhawks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Thorold averages three goals per contest. The Blackhawks were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of 11 man advantages.

Thorold additionally got points from Mac Avoy, who also finished with three goals and one assist, Tanner Pagendam, who also racked up one goal and three assists, and Dan Chudobiak, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Thorold also had goals scored by Joel Forestell, who had one and Greg Cerilli, who had two. Others who recorded assists for Thorold were Robert MacFarlane, who had three, Gabe Ruggi, Kevin Lavoie, Matthew Hoszko, and Robert Bentavegna, who contributed one each, and Anthony Scornaienchi and Tanner Hildebrandt, who each chipped in two.

Thorold's Evan Buitenhuis stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Blackhawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Jr. Blades incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
