Motor City downs Michigan in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Motor City Chiefs pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Michigan Ice Dogs on a clutch goal by Anthony Dimarco.

The win gave Motor City a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

The Chiefs almost relinquished a two-score lead. Motor City made it 3-1 on a goal by Joseph Close at 16:00 in the third period. Michigan pulled to within 3-2 on a goal by Michael Diaz at 17:09 in the third period.

The Chiefs' penalty kill excelled, as Motor City gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Chiefs stifled the Ice Dogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Motor City kept Michigan's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matthew Schnoes made 40 saves on 44 shots. The Chiefs were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 36 penalty minutes.

Motor City also got points from John Mulligan, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Motor City also got a goal from James Smith as well. More assists for Motor City came via Travis McGuckin, who had one and Jonathon Hultgren, who had two.

The Ice Dogs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Motor City power plays. Michigan forced Motor City goalie Brian Ellis to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Cameron Kucharski also scored for Michigan. Other players who recorded assists for Michigan were John Deal, who had two and Ashton Guy, Caleb Samborski, and Jaymes Kastely, who contributed one a piece.

Ellis rejected 32 shots on goal for the Chiefs. The Ice Dogs ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
