Brampton blows out Toronto, 6-2

Brampton had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-2 win over Toronto.

Molly Engstrom had one goal and three assists to lead Brampton. Engstrom scored on the power play 4:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brampton. Brampton had taken the advantage when Toronto's Jess Scanzano got sent off for head contact. Cherie Piper provided the assist.

Brampton forced Toronto's goalies to work without much rest, taking 38 shots and forcing 32 saves. Sami Jo Small made 12 stops and Erika Vanderveer made 20. Brampton put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Toronto to score on any of its three power plays. Brampton surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Brampton has scored at the pace of 3.6 goals per game during the current campaign.

Brampton additionally got points from Gillian Apps, who also racked up two goals and one assist, Jayna Hefford, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Courtney Birchard, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Brampton also got a goal from Andrea Ironside as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Tara Gray, who had one and Vicki Bendus, who had two.

Brooke Beazer also scored for Toronto. In addition, Toronto received assists from Mallory Deluce, Britni Smith, and Kori Cheverie, who contributed one a piece.

Brampton's Liz Knox stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that she faced. Brampton incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Toronto incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
