Boston wins tough contest against Alberta, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Boston escaped with a 5-3 victory over Alberta.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Lindsay Berman at 1:11 of the third period.

Kelli Stack was all over the ice for Boston, as she tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Stack scored the first of her two goals at 53 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Boston. Stack's next tally made the score 2-1 Boston with 1:50 left in the first period. Erika Lawler assisted on the tally.

Boston pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes.

Boston excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances.

Gigi Marvin also scored for Boston. Other players who recorded assists for Boston were Whitney Naslund, Cherie Hendrickson, and Jessica Koizumi, who contributed one a piece.

Alberta put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Boston to score on any of its six power plays. Alberta could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game.

Alberta was helped by Cunningham Jenna, who grabbed two goals. Jenna scored the first of her two goals at 1:51 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Peacock Taryn provided the assist. Jenna's next tally made the score 3-2 Alberta with 2:44 left in the second period. Taryn assisted on the tally. In addition, Alberta received assists from Mikkelson Meaghan, who had one and Hunt Sam, who had two.

Molly Schaus recorded 22 saves for Boston. Alberta's MacIsaac Jillian stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that she faced.
