Hess' hat trick boosts Ft. Wayne over Wisconsin, 11-0

Cody Hess lifted the Ft. Wayne Federals to an 11-0 victory with a hat trick against the Wisconsin Rampage.

Hess notched his first tally 17:24 into the first period. He then added goals at 10:00 into the third and at 15:08 into the third.

Jesse Weitzel spearheaded the defensive effort for Ft. Wayne, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 30 saves for the shutout. Weitzel certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.86 entering the contest.

The Federals put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wisconsin to score on any of its six power plays. Ft. Wayne kept the Rampage's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cason Kirkpatrick made 39 saves on 50 shots. The Federals bested their season scoring average. Ft. Wayne has scored at the pace of six goals per game during the current campaign. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with four goals.

Ft. Wayne additionally got points from Spencer Johnson, who also tallied two goals and four assists, Hess, who also finished with three goals and two assists, Kelly Hay, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Tyler Mason, who also racked up one goal and five assists, Brendan Lewis, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Chad Swartz, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Ft. Wayne got a goal from Derek Moss as well. In addition, Ft. Wayne received assists from Nicholas Denice, who had three and Ian Harris, Tyler Teglia, Austin Allard, and John Gangnon, who each chipped in one.

The Wisconsin penalty box was a busy place as the team totaled five minors and two majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. The Rampage had been averaging 26 minutes in penalties per game. Wisconsin could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Rampage put an average of five pucks into the net per game. Wisconsin's penalty kill unit could not stop the Federals' power play, which converted on four of six opportunities.

Ft. Wayne incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Team's Connor Dillon and James Walsh were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
