St. Michaels rolls over Pickering, 8-2

Anthony Rizzo was all over the ice for the St. Michaels Buzzers, as he tallied one goal and two assists in St. Michaels' 8-2 win over the Pickering Panthers.

Rizzo beat Adam Stein with a shot 10:17 into the second period short handed to make the score 3-1 St. Michaels. A roughing call on Jason Boag put the Buzzers on the penalty kill. Taylor Clements provided the assist. Rizzo dished an assist on Clements' goal that made the score 4-1 St. Michaels at 16:35 into the second period. He added another helper on Clements' goal that made the score 8-2 St. Michaels at 17:21 into the third period.

Pickering's power play was ineffective against St. Michaels' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:32 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Buzzers were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. St. Michaels had been averaging 13.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Buzzers made Panthers' goaltenders to work without much rest, getting 31 shots and forcing 23 saves. Stein made 20 stops and Elan Baker made three. St. Michaels put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Panthers to score on any of their seven power plays. The Buzzers outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, St. Michaels averages 4.4 goals per contest.

St. Michaels also got points from Daniel Milne, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Clements, who also racked up two goals and one assist, Michael Neville, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Troy Josephs, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Tommy Sumi, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Erlich Doerksen also scored for St. Michaels. More assists for St. Michaels came via Mark Cooper, Nathan Feric, and Patrick McCarron, who contributed one a piece.

Pickering's offense rang up 43 shots on the Buzzers' net. The Panthers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 21 penalty minutes.

Pickering was led by Mark Ramkema, who racked up one goal. Ramkema scored 16:09 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Connor Oakley picked up the assist. Pickering also got a goal from Aidan Wallace as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pickering were Evan Bruno and Taylor Pryce, who each chipped in one.

Adrian Ignagni rejected 41 shots on goal for St. Michaels. The Buzzers registered two goals on five power play opportunities. St. Michaels ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kurt Gottschalk was ejected from the game. For the Panthers, Oakley was ejected from the game.
