BURLINGTON wins tough contest against OTTAWA, 3-2

BURLINGTON and OTTAWA were evenly matched throughout their contest, but BURLINGTON made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Emily Janiga's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Janiga had two goals and one assist to lead BURLINGTON. Janiga scored the first of her two goals at 4:34 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Olivia Whitford assisted on the tally. Janiga's next tally made the score 3-2 BURLINGTON with 12:13 left in the third period. Kristin Gilmour provided the assist.

BURLINGTON stifled OTTAWA's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. BURLINGTON's offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 49 shots put on OTTAWA's net.

BURLINGTON also got points from Janiga, who also had two goals and one assist. BURLINGTON got a goal from Taylor Accursi as well. In addition, BURLINGTON received assists from Anissa Gamble, who had two.

OTTAWA managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. OTTAWA wound up below its season average of nine penalty minutes per game.

OTTAWA was helped by Katelyn Fournier, who grabbed one goal. Fournier scored 14:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 OTTAWA. Alanna Grossutti assisted on the tally. Lauren Miller also scored for OTTAWA. More assists for OTTAWA came via Cydney Roesler (C) and Jenna MacDonald, who contributed one each.

Kasia Henley turned away 19 pucks between the pipes for BURLINGTON. BURLINGTON incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Amanda Leveille recorded 46 saves for OTTAWA. OTTAWA registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
