Vinnai stymies Port Colborne, Niagara Falls wins 3-1Gale Centre Fri, Feb 24, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Cody Vinnai had a standout game with 32 saves, and the Niagara Falls Canucks beat the Port Colborne Pirates 3-1. Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 17 penalties during the game. Niagara Falls was sparked by Ben O Quinn, who tallied one goal. O Quinn scored on the power play 11:23 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Niagara Falls. The Canucks earned a power play opportunity when James Tyminski was put in the box for interference. Cam Stewart provided the assist. Niagara Falls stifled Port Colborne's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Pirates were unable to stop the Canucks from sending pucks towards the net, and Niagara Falls eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. The Canucks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Stewart, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Niagara Falls also got points from Stewart, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Grant McLean also scored for Niagara Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were Peter Hermenegildo and Ryan Wiley, who contributed two each. Port Colborne racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The Pirates surpassed its season average of 27 penalty minutes per game. Port Colborne could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Pirates put an average of four pucks into the net per game. Port Colborne's offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 33 shots put on Niagara Falls' net. The Pirates were led by Jordan Warren, who scored the team's only goal. Warren scored 10:58 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Evan Huckalo picked up the assist. The Canucks registered three goals on 14 power play opportunities. Real Cormier turned away 36 pucks between the pipes for Port Colborne. The Pirates registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. For Port Colborne, Tyminski was ejected from the game.
