Edgar's big game bests Owen Sound in 7-3 Kitchener winBayshore Community Center Sun, Feb 19, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Phil Edgar was all over the ice for the Kitchener Dutchmen, as he tallied one goal and three assists in Kitchener's 7-3 win over the Owen Sound Greys. Edgar got on the board by slotting home a goal 1:13 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Kitchener. Keli Grant assisted on the tally. Edgar dished an assist on Grant's goal that made the score 2-1 Kitchener at 14:18 into the second period. He then added assists on Tyler Hoffman's goal at 8:37 into the third and on Eric Hammerl's goal at 19:44 into the third.Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 16 penalties during the game. The Dutchmen's offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 39 shots put on Owen Sound's net. Kitchener surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Dutchmen average two goals per game. Kitchener had trouble staying out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 18 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays. The leading offender was Brad Chambers, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Kitchener additionally got points from Hammerl, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, David Gallo, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Grant, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mitch Atkins also scored for Kitchener. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Matt Guild, who had two and Robin Clarke, Philip Moser, Aaron Duggan, and John Divo, who each chipped in one. The Dutchmen were unable to stop the Greys from sending pucks towards the net, and Owen Sound eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The Greys could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. Owen Sound was led by Mitch Wright, who registered two goals. Wright scored the first of his two goals at 6:13 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Owen Sound. Kristopher Dobinson picked up the assist. Wright's next tally made the score 5-2 Kitchener with 8:30 left in the third period. Trevor Hughson provided the assist. Owen Sound got a goal from Chris Gillman as well. In addition, Owen Sound received assists from Jonathan Langford, Brandon Lamothe, and Ryan Hudson, who contributed one each. Mario Duscio turned away 39 pucks between the pipes for Kitchener. The Dutchmen registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Jacob Keogh recorded 32 saves for the Greys.
