Cambridge outlasts Owen Sound, 4-2

The Cambridge Winter Hawks gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Owen Sound Greys.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Ryan Clarke at 13:19 of the third period.

Clarke had a great game for Cambridge, netting two goals.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 19 penalties during the game.

The Winter Hawks kept Owen Sound's goalie busy throughout the game, and Nicholas Caldwell made 40 saves on 44 shots. Cambridge found itself short handed often, totaling 42 penalty minutes and allowing 10 power plays. The leading offender was Christian Barnard, who totaled 12 minutes in penalty time with one minor and one misconduct.

Cambridge also got points from Josh Timpano, who also had one goal and one assist. Cambridge got a goal from Cameron Pentsa as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Cody Gratton, who had three and Dylan Decker, Darcy Meyer, and Michael Christou, who contributed one each.

The Greys excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Owen Sound could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Tyler Crawford, who totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one misconduct.

The Greys were helped by Kristopher Dobinson, who racked up one goal. Dobinson scored on the power play 3:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Owen Sound. Owen Sound had gained a power play chance when Decker was whistled for hooking. Mitch Wright provided the assist. Doug Ardis also scored for Owen Sound. More assists for Owen Sound came via Nikolas McIver, who had one.

Lucas Machalski made 26 saves for the Winter Hawks on 28 shots. Team's Trevor Hache and Meyer were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
