Elmira outlasts Owen Sound, 6-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Elmira Sugar Kings escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Owen Sound Greys.

Elmira gained the winning advantage on a goal by Andrew Smith 11:34 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Sugar Kings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Owen Sound to score on any of its five power plays. Elmira's offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 53 shots put on the Greys' net. The Sugar Kings could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Justin Cooke, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

Elmira additionally got points from Brady Campbell, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Brad Kraus, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Smith, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Elmira got a goal from Brett Catto as well. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Brodie Whitehead, Mac Clutsam, Rob Bennett, Will Cook, Michael Hasson, Lukas Baleshta, and Riley Sonnenburg, who each chipped in one.

Owen Sound was led by Zac Coulter, who finished with two goals. Coulter scored the first of his two goals at 18:07 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Elmira. Nikolas McIver provided the assist. Coulter's next tally made the score 3-3 with 18:32 left in the third period. Jonathan Langford assisted on the tally. Brandon Lamothe also scored for Owen Sound. More assists for Owen Sound came via Tyler Crawford, Brooks Nelthorpe, Doug Ardis, Mitch Wright, and Chris Gillman, who contributed one each.
