Brantford downs Guelph, 8-5

The Guelph Hurricanes fell to the Brantford Golden Eagles, 8-5.

Brantford forced Guelph's goalies to work without much rest, firing 50 shots and forcing 42 saves. Taylor O Keefe made 37 stops and Colin Furlong made five. The Golden Eagles surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Brantford has scored at the pace of four goals per game during the current campaign. The Golden Eagles struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Hurricanes to score three power play goals on four chances.

Brantford was helped by Dave Lazurus, who tallied one goal and one assist. Lazurus scored 7:12 into the third period to make the score 6-5 Brantford. Brantford also got points from Lazurus, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Brandon Montour, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Brantford included Mike Riley, who had two and Jeff Swift, Matt Quilty, Mitch Brown, and Brendan Quigg, who each put in one. More assists for Brantford came via Mike Rebry, who had three, Paul Gallucci and Tanner Rutland, who each chipped in one, and Matt Prinsen, Trent Hawke, and Tyler Norrie, who contributed two each.

Guelph was helped by Mike Iacocca, who racked up two goals. Iacocca scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Guelph. The Hurricanes had gained a power play chance when Hawke was whistled for holding. Mike Charbonneau assisted on the tally. Iacocca's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 23 seconds left in the first period. Guelph earned a power play opportunity when Nate Mitton was put in the box for slashing. Brandon Stewart provided the assist. Guelph additionally got points from Stewart, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Charbonneau, who also had one goal and one assist. Marc Shanks also scored for Guelph. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Chris Taylor, who had three and Mitch Klie and Logan Percy, who each chipped in one.

Bryce O Hagan recorded 19 saves for the Golden Eagles. Brantford incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Hurricanes incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
