St. Thomas vanquishes St. Marys in shootout, 5-4 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the St. Thomas Stars defeated the St. Marys Lincolns in a shootout 5-4 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured four attempts between both teams. St. Thomas' other shootout goal was scored by Davis Boyer.

The Stars overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. St. Thomas fell behind 3-1 after a goal by St. Marys' Reid Oliver at 7:52 in the second period. The Stars tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Mark Raycroft at 18:48 in the third period.

St. Thomas was led by Brett Hope, who racked up one goal. Hope scored short handed 4:52 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Stars were on a disadvantage when Thomas Kohler went off the ice for hooking.

The Lincolns were unable to stop St. Thomas from sending pucks towards the net, and the Stars eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. St. Thomas' defensemen played an important role in the offense, as they chipped in two goals.

Kevin Zacharuk also scored for St. Thomas. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Scott Mitchell, who had two and Braden Hellems and Drew Collinson, who contributed one each.

St. Marys forced the Stars goalie Michael Slaats to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

St. Marys additionally got points from Oliver, who also registered one goal and one assist. St. Marys got a goal from Calvin Penney as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Marys were Kurtis Lavis, who had two and Blake Thompson, Sean Consitt, and Mike Mandarelli, who each chipped in one.

Slaats turned away 27 pucks between the pipes for St. Thomas. The Stars incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Craig Wood recorded 31 saves for the Lincolns. St. Marys incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
