St. Thomas vanquishes Leamington in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the St. Thomas Stars defeated the Leamington Flyers in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

St. Thomas saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Stars made the score 3-0 on a goal by Blake Thomas at 19:54 in the second period. Leamington evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Nicholas Nicodemo at 19:17 in the third period.

The Flyers were unable to stop St. Thomas from sending pucks towards the net, and the Stars eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

St. Thomas got a goal from Justin Clark as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Scott Mitchell, who had two and Matt Schurr, Ashton Waters, Zack Anderson, and Drew Collinson, who contributed one each.

Leamington forced St. Thomas goalie Michael Slaats to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

The Flyers were led by Cheyne Matheson, who had one goal and two assists. Matheson scored on the power play 6:32 into the third period to make the score 3-1 St. Thomas. Leamington had taken the advantage when the Stars' Marcus Michalski got sent off for tripping. Nicodemo provided the assist. Leamington additionally got points from Nicodemo, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Matheson, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Ron Soucie also scored for Leamington. More assists for Leamington came via Austin Mattson, Alex Seguin, and Tyler Quigley, who each chipped in one.

Slaats turned away 38 pucks between the pipes for St. Thomas. The Stars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Flyers' Colin Greeley stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Leamington incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
