Niagara Falls outlasts St. Catharines, 3-2

The Niagara Falls Canucks and the St. Catharines Falcons were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Niagara Falls made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Ben O Quinn's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

O Quinn was all over the ice for the Canucks, as he registered two goals in the win.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:22 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Niagara Falls was often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. The Canucks had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Niagara Falls also got points from Cam Stewart, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were Cam McLean, who had two and Brad Kri, Peter Hermenegildo, and Garrett Gallardi, who each chipped in one.

St. Catharines' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and three majors for 37 minutes in penalty time. The Falcons surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. St. Catharines could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Falcons put an average of 5.0 pucks into the net per game. St. Catharines kept Niagara Falls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Cody Vinnai made 35 saves on 37 shots.

The Falcons were helped by Spencer DeWolfe, who racked up one goal. DeWolfe scored 4:13 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Catharines. Curtis Longland picked up the assist. St. Catharines also got a goal from Nick Hovanessian as well. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Kyle Woodhouse, Aaron Taylor, and Johnson Andrews, who contributed one each.

The Canucks registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Niagara Falls, Vito Scaringi and Jamie Falavo were ejected from the contest. Brad Pope rejected 22 shots on goal for St. Catharines. The Falcons registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Team's Hovanessian, Tyler Jackson, and Andrews were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
