Pensacola wins tough contest against Louisiana, 5-3Pensacola Bay Center Fri, Mar 23, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Pensacola Ice Flyers gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Louisiana IceGators. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Matthew Robertson secured the win for Pensacola with a goal in the third period. By firing 41 shots on goal, the Ice Flyers exceeded the 25.5 shots they average per game this year. Pensacola also got a goal from Donnie Harris as well. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Tyler Soehner, who had two and Adam Kuhn, Jordan Chong, Ryan Corry, Kevin Brojek, Jeff Sapieha, Dan Buccella, and Ryan Hohl, who each chipped in one. Pensacola was unable to stop Louisiana from sending pucks towards the net, and the IceGators eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Louisiana was led by Shawn McNeil, who had two goals. McNeil scored the first of his two goals at 11:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Louisiana. Jason Hill assisted on the tally. McNeil's next tally made the score 4-3 Pensacola with 48 seconds left in the third period. Robert Short picked up the assist. Josh Boyd also scored for Louisiana. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Brayden Metz, Marc Lefebvre, and Eric Tallent, who contributed one a piece. Corey Milan rejected 29 shots on goal for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 2-for-2 on the power play. The IceGators' Jeff Rose stopped 36 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Louisiana totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
