Knoxville falls to Columbus in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Knoxville Civic Coliseum Thu, Mar 22, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Sam Bowles gave the Columbus Cottonmouths a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Knoxville Ice Bears when he scored 4:00 into the extra period. Knoxville could not complete its climb out of a two-goal hole. Columbus made the score 2-0 on a goal by Peter MacDougall at 18:29 in the second period. The Ice Bears got to within 2-1 on a goal by David Segal at 2:22 in the third period. The Cottonmouths were led by Bowles, who finished with one goal and one assist. Columbus put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Knoxville to score on any of its four power plays. Columbus additionally got points from Jordan Braid, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Greg Beller, Andrew Krelove, and Bret Tyler, who each chipped in one. The Ice Bears put 42 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30.3 they average per game. Knoxville also got a goal from Mark Van Vliet as well. More assists for Knoxville came via Dan Bremner, Eric Satim, Eric Slais, and Emery Olauson, who contributed one a piece. Ian Vigier recorded 40 saves for the Cottonmouths. Columbus totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Knoxville's Kyle Rank stopped 21 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Ice Bears ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
