Columbus boosted by Vigier's play in net, beats Pensacola 3-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Ian Vigier helped the Columbus Cottonmouths defeat the Pensacola Ice Flyers, 3-1.

Columbus pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Cottonmouths were sparked by Sam Bowles, who grabbed one goal. Bowles scored on the power play 17:03 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Columbus. Columbus had taken the advantage when Pensacola's Adam Kuhn got sent off for slashing. Tom Maldonado provided the assist.

The Cottonmouths' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Pensacola power plays.

Jordan Braid also scored for Columbus. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Mitch Wall and Bret Tyler, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Flyers were held below their usual level of production. Pensacola averages 3.4 goals per game. The Ice Flyers put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.6 they average per game.

Pensacola was led by Ryan Hohl, who scored the team's only goal. Hohl scored 4:10 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. Matthew Robertson picked up the assist.

Columbus' Vigier stopped 35 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Cottonmouths registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Jesse Kallechy made 19 saves for the Ice Flyers on 21 shots. Pensacola incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
