Fayetteville squeaks by Pensacola, 6-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Fayetteville FireAntz escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jesse Cole secured the win for Fayetteville with a goal in the third period.

Cole had two goals and one assist to lead the FireAntz. Cole scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:14 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Fayetteville. Fayetteville earned a power play opportunity when Tyler Soehner was put in the box for interference. Jesse Biduke picked up the assist. Cole's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Fayetteville with 2:24 left in the third period. The FireAntz had gained a power play chance when Kevin Brojek was whistled for interference. Biduke provided the assist.

Fayetteville pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The FireAntz outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Fayetteville averages 3.1 goals per contest. The FireAntz relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Cole, Matt Smyth and Robert Sich took 11 of the team's 21 shots.

Fayetteville additionally got points from Mike Forgie, who also finished with one goal and three assists and Josh McQuade, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Fayetteville also got a goal from Chris Rebernik as well.

Pensacola got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The Ice Flyers put 48 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.3 they average per game.

Pensacola also got points from Jordan Chong, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Chris Wilson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Ryan Salvis, who had two and Andrew Howes and Andrew Harrison, who contributed one a piece.

Mike Brown rejected 44 shots on goal for Fayetteville. The FireAntz registered two goals on two power play opportunities. Corey Milan recorded 15 saves for Pensacola. The Ice Flyers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
