Mississippi Surge survives Louisiana comeback, wins 4-2

The Louisiana IceGators tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but Mississippi Surge held on for a 4-2 victory.

A goal by Tyler Ruel put Mississippi Surge up 4-1 in the third period, but Louisiana pulled to within two on Eric Tallent's tally 11:30 into the third period.

Mississippi Surge was led by Jeff Grant, who had one goal. Grant scored on the power play 11:20 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge earned a power play opportunity when Jason Hill was put in the box for high sticking. Nick Guran picked up the assist.

By firing 30 shots on goal, Mississippi Surge exceeded the 26.1 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi Surge additionally got points from Rob Campbell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Shawn Skelly, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Mississippi Surge came via Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn, Glenn Cacaro, and Nick Klaren, who contributed one a piece.

The IceGators relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Robert Short, Tyler Fernandez and Sean Murray took 14 of the team's 25 shots.
