Mississippi Surge downs Fayetteville, 4-1

Nick Klaren grabbed one point to lead Mississippi Surge to a 4-1 victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz.

Both goalies were tossed from the game during the major incident in the third period.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Mississippi Surge's offense was clicking better than usual and put 37 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.1 shots per game it averages.

Mississippi Surge additionally got points from Scott Jenks, who also had one goal and one assist and Shawn Skelly, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Adam Stuart also scored for Mississippi Surge. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi Surge were Tyler Ruel, who had two and Matt Kinnunen, Chris Chambers, Rob Campbell, and Nick Guran, who each chipped in one.

The Fayetteville penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The FireAntz had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. Fayetteville allowed the opposing goaltender to relax, getting only 12 shots on goal to force 11 saves. Team.mascot's final shot tally was well below the team's average of 23.8 pucks on net per game. The FireAntz's offense operated below they season average. Fayetteville averages 3.1 goals per game.

The FireAntz were led by Mike Forgie, who scored the team's only goal. Forgie scored 1:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fayetteville. Jesse Biduke picked up the assist.

Kiefer Smiley rejected nine shots on goal for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For Mississippi Surge, Smiley was ejected from the game. Mike Brown recorded 29 saves for Fayetteville. The FireAntz registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Fayetteville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brown was ejected from the game.
