Augusta downs Knoxville in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Augusta RiverHawks pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Knoxville Ice Bears on a clutch goal by Matt Auffrey.

Auffrey had one goal and two assists to lead Augusta. Auffrey scored 4:51 into overtime to make the score 3-2 Augusta. Jason Price provided the assist.

Knoxville's power play was ineffective against the RiverHawks' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Augusta excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The defensemen of the RiverHawks were also effective in the Ice Bears' zone, and came away with two goals. By firing 42 shots on goal, Augusta exceeded the 23.4 shots it averages per game this year.

Drew Baker also scored for Augusta. In addition, Augusta received assists from Lucas LaBelle and Jim Gehring, who each chipped in one.

Knoxville stifled the RiverHawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Ice Bears forced Augusta goalie Peter Skoggard to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Knoxville was helped by Tyler Fletcher, who finished with one goal. Fletcher scored short handed 1:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Knoxville. An interference call on Berkley Scott put the Ice Bears on the penalty kill. Emery Olauson assisted on the tally. Knoxville also got points from Kevin Swider, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Knoxville came via Mark Van Vliet, who had one.

Skoggard rejected 31 shots on goal for the RiverHawks. Augusta incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Kyle Rank recorded 39 saves for Knoxville. The Ice Bears incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
