Mississippi Surge uses shootout to best Pensacola, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

James Isaacs scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Mississippi Surge picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (2-1 SO) win over the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

The shootout lasted for 22 attempts between the teams. Pensacola's shootout goal was scored by Matthew Robertson. In addition to the clincher, Mississippi Surge got a shootout goal from Tyler Ruel.

Mississippi Surge came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Mississippi Surge fell behind 3-2 after a goal by the Ice Flyers' Andrew Howes at 11:19 in the third period. Mississippi Surge knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Adam Stuart at 15:46 in the third period.

Mississippi Surge's penalty kill excelled, as Mississippi Surge gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Matt Kinnunen also scored for Mississippi Surge. In addition, Mississippi Surge received assists from Rob Campbell, who had one and Scott Jenks and Colin Reddin, who each chipped in two.

Pensacola forced Mississippi Surge goalie Nick Eno to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

The Ice Flyers were led by Chris Wilson, who had one goal and one assist. Wilson scored on the power play 12:22 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Pensacola. Pensacola had taken the advantage when Mississippi Surge's Nick Guran got sent off for high sticking. Donnie Harris provided the assist. Pensacola also got a goal from Jordan Chong as well. More assists for Pensacola came via Ryan Hohl, who had one and Mike Carter, who had two.

Mississippi Surge's Eno stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Mississippi Surge incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Corey Milan made 18 saves for the Ice Flyers on 21 shots. Pensacola incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
