Knoxville falls to Huntsville in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Breland Homes Ice Sat, Feb 25, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Huntsville Havoc pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Knoxville Ice Bears on a clutch goal by Ray Ortiz. Huntsville's penalty kill excelled, as the Havoc gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. Huntsville was paced by Ortiz, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Ortiz scored 44 seconds into overtime to make the score 3-2 Huntsville. Kyle Crawford provided the assist. The Havoc did not rack up many penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. Huntsville stayed under its season average of 22 penalties minutes per game this season. The Havoc relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Mike MacDonald, Ortiz and Crawford took 19 of the team's 36 shots. Huntsville additionally got points from Ortiz, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Crawford, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Brad Flynn also scored for Huntsville. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Glenn Detulleo, who had two and JD Gordon and Ryan Maunu, who each chipped in one. Knoxville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Kevin Swider, David Segal and Eric Slais took 15 of the team's 29 shots. Knoxville got a goal from Berkley Scott as well. More assists for Knoxville came via Steve Wiedler and Tyler Fletcher, who contributed one each. Huntsville's Kevin Beech stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Havoc registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Kyle Rank turned away 33 pucks between the pipes for the Ice Bears. Knoxville ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
