Knoxville blows out Huntsville, 4-1

The Knoxville Ice Bears were firing on all cylinders against the Huntsville Havoc, and when the final buzzer sounded Ice Bears emerged with a 4-1 win.

Mark Van Vliet was all over the ice for Knoxville, as he tallied one goal and three assists in the win. Van Vliet scored 18:41 into the third period to make the score 4-1 Knoxville. Eric Satim picked up the assist.

The Ice Bears' Kyle Rank was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 32 saves and let only one puck past him. Rank certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.74 entering the contest.

Knoxville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Huntsville to score on any of its three power plays. The Ice Bears put 41 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30 they average per game.

Knoxville also got points from Van Vliet, who also finished with one goal and three assists, Kevin Swider, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Satim, who also had one goal and two assists, and Emery Olauson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were David Segal, who had one.

The Havoc could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Brad Flynn, who totaled five minutes in penalty time with one major. The defense for Huntsville played an important role offensively, racking up 17 shots on goal. The Havoc's offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 33 shots put on Knoxville's net.

Huntsville was led by Stuart Stefan, who scored the team's only goal. Stefan scored 9:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Knoxville. Kyle Crawford provided the assist.

The Ice Bears totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Mark Sibbald made 37 saves for the Havoc on 40 shots.
