Fayetteville rides Brown to victory over Huntsville, 2-1

The Fayetteville FireAntz relied on the sparkling performance of Mike Brown in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Huntsville Havoc.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 14 penalties during the game.

Fayetteville was led by Chris Leveille, who had one goal. Leveille scored 12:50 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Fayetteville. Jesse Biduke picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with five game misconducts.

The the FireAntz penalty box was a busy place as the team totaled five minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19 minutes per game Fayetteville had been spending in the box. By firing 39 shots on goal, the FireAntz exceeded the 23 shots they average per game this year.

Matt Smyth also scored for Fayetteville. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Josh McQuade and Robert Sich, who contributed one each.

Huntsville forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. The Havoc surpassed its season average of 22 penalty minutes per game. Huntsville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The 27 shots that the Havoc put on net surpassed Huntsville's average of 20 shots per game this season.

The Havoc were led by Justin Fox, who scored the team's only goal. Fox scored on the power play 14:36 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. Huntsville earned a power play opportunity when Sich was put in the box for high sticking. Glenn Detulleo assisted on the tally.

Brown recorded 26 saves for Fayetteville. For the FireAntz, Smyth and Kyle McNeil were ejected from the contest. Mark Sibbald made 37 saves for the Havoc on 39 shots. Huntsville registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Team's Dennis Sicard and Greg Brown were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
