Mississippi RiverKings blows out Huntsville, 5-1

Mississippi RiverKings had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Huntsville Havoc.

Mississippi RiverKings was led by goalie Scott Darling, who finished with 31 saves while allowing one goal. Darling managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.99 prior to the game.

Mississippi RiverKings was sparked by Darrell Stoddard, who had one goal and one assist. Stoddard scored 15:04 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mississippi RiverKings. Matt Whitehead provided the assist.

Mississippi RiverKings surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, Mississippi RiverKings averages two goals per contest. Mississippi RiverKings relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Stoddard, Ken Selby and Whitehead took 16 of the team's 31 shots.

Huntsville's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 13 shots on net during the game. The Havoc forced Mississippi RiverKings goalie Darling to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Huntsville was led by Ray Ortiz, who scored the team's only goal. Ortiz scored 10:53 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Mississippi RiverKings. Stuart Stefan assisted on the tally.

Mississippi RiverKings totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. The Havoc's Kevin Beech stopped 26 shots out of the 31 that he faced.
