Augusta squeaks by Fayetteville, 4-2

The Augusta RiverHawks and the Fayetteville FireAntz were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Augusta made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Brendan Taylor secured the win for the RiverHawks with a goal in the third period.

Augusta put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24 it averages per game.

The RiverHawks were led by Matt Auffrey, who finished with one goal and one assist. Auffrey scored 4:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Augusta. Branden Kosolofsky picked up the assist. Augusta additionally got points from Egor Mironov, who also had one goal and one assist and Jim Gehring, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Augusta were Neil Graham, Justin Levac, and Ed Snetsinger, who each chipped in one.

Fayetteville was led by Robert Sich, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Sich scored 18:01 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. Jesse Biduke assisted on the tally. Fayetteville got a goal from Bobby Reed as well. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Mike Brown and Chris Leveille, who contributed one each.

Jon Olthuis made 19 saves for Augusta on 21 shots. The RiverHawks totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Brown recorded 31 saves for the FireAntz. Fayetteville totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
