GAME RECAP

Huntsville beats Pensacola 3-0 as Beech gains shutout

Pensacola Bay Center    Sun, Feb 12, 2012

Kevin Beech was superb between the pipes for the Huntsville Havoc, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

The referees were busy during the game, as 15 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest.

Huntsville was paced by Justin Fox, who registered one goal and one assist. Fox scored on the power play 5:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. The Havoc had gotten the advantage when Pensacola's Andrew Howes was sent off for roughing. Ray Ortiz provided the assist.

Huntsville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Pensacola power plays. With 22 shots on target during the contest, the Havoc exceeded the 19 shots they average per game this year. Huntsville was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 14 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Jeff Hazelwood, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

Huntsville got a goal from Brad Flynn as well. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Glenn Detulleo, Dennis Sicard, and Scott Duncan, who contributed one each.

The Ice Flyers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Pensacola puts an average of three pucks into the net per game. The Ice Flyers had trouble staying out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 16 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays. The leading offender was Ryan Salvis, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Pensacola relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Chris Wilson, Dan Buccella and Salvis took 13 of the team's 25 shots.

Kevin Beech made 25 saves for the Havoc on 25 shots. Corey Milan recorded 19 saves for the Ice Flyers.
