Columbus downs Knoxville in overtime, 4-3 (OT)Columbus Civic Center Fri, Feb 10, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Columbus Cottonmouths' Greg Beller scored 1:37 into overtime to beat the Knoxville Ice Bears, 4-3 (OT). Columbus was led by Beller, who registered one goal and one assist. The Cottonmouths' penalty kill unit could not stop Knoxville's power play, which converted on three of four opportunities. With 33 shots on target during the contest, Columbus exceeded the 25.9 shots it averages per game this year. Columbus also got points from Andrew Krelove, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Columbus also got a goal from John Sullivan as well. More assists for Columbus came via David Cianfrini, Jordan Braid, Orrin Hergott, Mitch Wall, Derek Pallardy, and Bret Tyler, who each chipped in one. The Ice Bears relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as David Segal, Kevin Swider and Tyler Fletcher took 17 of the team's 30 shots. Brett Valliquette also scored for Knoxville. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Steve Wiedler, who had two and Ricky Helmbrecht, Eric Satim, and Eric Slais, who contributed one a piece. Ian Vigier recorded 27 saves for the Cottonmouths. Columbus totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Cottonmouths ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Daniel Amesbury was ejected from the game. Knoxville's Kyle Rank stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Ice Bears ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
