Knoxville rolls over Mississippi Surge, 6-1

The Knoxville Ice Bears were firing on all cylinders against Mississippi Surge, and when the final buzzer sounded Ice Bears emerged with a 6-1 win.

Emery Olauson had one goal and two assists to lead Knoxville. Olauson scored 5:47 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Knoxville. Steve Wiedler provided the assist.

The Ice Bears were led by goalie Jesse Kallechy, who finished with 41 saves while allowing one goal. Kallechy certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.55 entering the contest.

Knoxville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi Surge to score on any of its six power plays. The Ice Bears were below their usual level of shot production, taking 19 shots compared to the 29 Knoxville averages. The Ice Bears found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Knoxville has scored at the pace of three goals per game during the current campaign.

Knoxville additionally got points from Mark Van Vliet, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Kyle VanderMale, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Olauson, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and David Segal, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Knoxville got a goal from Kevin Swider as well. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Mike Towns, who had three.

Mississippi Surge's offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 42 shots put on the Ice Bears' net.

Mississippi Surge was led by Rob Campbell, who scored the team's only goal. Campbell scored 2:56 into the third period to make the score 4-1 Knoxville. Matt Kinnunen picked up the assist.

Knoxville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Kiefer Smiley took the loss and made eight saves before being replaced by Corey Milan who made five saves. Mississippi Surge incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
