Allen hangs on, beats Wichita 3-1

Keith Johnson gave Allen the lead in the first period, and the Wichita Thunder was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

Johnson provided Allen with the game-winning tally when he scored 4:46 into the the first period. Mark Nebus provided the assist.

Allen was paced by Nebus, who tallied one goal and one assist. Nebus scored 7:34 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Allen. Jason Deitsch picked up the assist.

Allen's offense was clicking better than usual and put 33 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.3 shots per game it averages.

Tyler Ludwig also scored for Allen. In addition, Allen received assists from Jake Newton, who had one.

Wichita put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Allen to score on any of its four power plays. The Thunder could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Wichita averages 3.5 goals per game. The 24 shots that the Thunder put on net surpassed Wichita's average of 19.2 shots per game this season.

The Thunder were led by Thomas Beauregard, who scored the team's only goal. Beauregard scored on the power play 16:32 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Allen. A tripping penalty on Ludwig had put Wichita on the power play. Daniel Tetrault provided the assist.

Jon Groenheyde made 23 saves for Allen on 24 shots. Allen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Bryan Hogan rejected 30 shots on goal for the Thunder. Wichita incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
