GAME RECAP

Lukin's big game bests Texas in 5-2 Allen win

Allen Event Center    Fri, Mar 16, 2012

Jarret Lukin was all over the ice for Allen, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Allen's 5-2 win over the Texas Brahmas.

Lukin beat Mark Guggenberger with a shot 1:49 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Allen. Keith Johnson provided the assist. Lukin dished an assist on Brian McMillin's goal that made the score 1-0 Allen at 7:42 into the first period. He added another helper on Jeff Martens' goal that made the score 3-0 Allen at 16:22 into the second period.

Allen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Texas to score on any of its three power plays.

Colton Yellow Horn also scored for Allen. In addition, Allen received assists from Jake Newton, Tyler Ludwig, Mark Nebus, Scott Langdon, and Erik Adams, who contributed one a piece.

The Brahmas forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Texas surpassed its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. The Brahmas failed to reach their usual level of shot production, putting 15 pucks on goal after averaging 24.4 shots per game this season. Texas' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Brahmas give up 2.5 goals per game. Texas relied heavily on its defensemen to assist its forwards, and the blueliners responded by scoring two goals on seven shots.

The Brahmas were helped by Ross Rouleau, who registered two goals. Rouleau scored the first of his two goals at 3:35 into the third period to make the score 5-1 Allen. TJ Fox assisted on the tally. Rouleau's next tally made the score 5-2 Allen with 14:34 left in the third period. Sy Nutkevitch picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Phil Fox, who had two.

Rejean Beauchemin rejected 13 shots on goal for Allen. Allen totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. Texas' starting goalie, Mark Guggenberger, made 13 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Ken Carroll, who stopped five shots.
