Effinger leads Missouri to shutout victory over Tulsa

Charlie Effinger made 32 saves to complete the shutout and led the Missouri Mavericks to a 4-0 win against the Tulsa Oilers.

Missouri was led by Brandon Coccimiglio, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Coccimiglio scored 8:43 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Missouri. Dale Mahovsky assisted on the tally.

The Mavericks stifled Tulsa's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Missouri was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Mavericks gives up 3.0 goals on average per game. Missouri's offense was clicking better than usual and put 37 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.2 shots per game it averages.

Missouri also got points from John-Scott Dickson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Kris Hogg also scored for Missouri. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were Dave Pszenyczny, who had two and Mike Wakita, Ed McGrane, and Andrew Courtney, who each chipped in one.

The Oilers forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Tulsa surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Oilers' offense operated below they season average. Tulsa averages 3.0 goals per game. The Oilers' offense rang up 32 shots on the Mavericks' net.

Tulsa was led by Sean Erickson, who took four shots.

Missouri totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. The Oilers' Ian Keserich stopped 33 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Tulsa registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
