Quad City vanquishes Rapid City in shootout, 6-5 (2-0 SO)

The Quad City Mallards and Rapid City both failed to score in overtime, but Quad City won the game 6-5 (2-0 SO) after Jared Brown's deciding goal in the shootout.

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, the Mallards got a shootout goal from Brown.

Quad City came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Mallards was down 2-0 after a power play goal by Rapid City's Anthony Perdicaro at 10:21 in the first period. Quad City knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Riley Weselowski at 7:46 in the third period.

The Mallards' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Quad City averages three goals per contest. With 39 shots on target during the contest, the Mallards exceeded the 33 shots they average per game this year.

Quad City was led by Brandon Marino, who registered three goals and one assist. Quad City additionally got points from Marino, who also tallied three goals and one assist. Quad City got a goal from Obi Aduba as well. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Darren McMillan, Jared Lavender, Brown, Justin Chwedoruk, Justin Hofstetter, Eric Giosa, and John Snowden, who each chipped in one.

Rapid City relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Weselowski, Konrad Reeder and Andrew Smale took 13 of the team's 23 shots. Rapid City's defensemen bolstered Rapid City's offensive attack, as they bombarded David Brown with 14 shots.

Rapid City also got points from Weselowski, who also had one goal and one assist, Jeff Kyrzakos, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Reeder, who also registered one goal and three assists. Scott Wray also scored for Rapid City. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Dominic DAmour, Jordan Behler, Shawn Limpright, and Michael Couch, who contributed one each.

Brown turned away 18 pucks between the pipes for the Mallards. Quad City incurred 19 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Tim Boron made eight saves before being replaced by David Wilson, who took the otl and made 25 saves. Rapid City incurred 17 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
