Evansville rolls over Arizona, 5-2

The Arizona Sundogs had trouble finding ways to stop the Evansville IceMen, which beat Sundogs, 5-2.

Evansville got the win thanks to a great game by Todd Robinson, who had one goal and two assists. Robinson scored on the power play 8:07 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Evansville. The IceMen had taken the advantage when Arizona's Adam Smyth got sent off for elbowing. Matt Gens picked up the assist.

Evansville made the most of it opportunities with a man advantage, slotting home three goals while the Sundogs were on the penalty kill.

The IceMen's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Arizona power plays. Evansville failed to reach its usual level of shot production, putting 23 pucks on goal after averaging 29 shots per game this season. The defensemen of the IceMen were also effective in Arizona's zone, and came away with two goals.

Evansville additionally got points from Gens, who also had one goal and two assists and Philippe Plante, who also registered one goal and one assist. Mark Cody also scored for Evansville. In addition, Evansville received assists from Chad Langlais, who had two and Brian Bicek, Nicklas Lindberg, and Steve Makway, who contributed one each.

The Sundogs put 37 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30 they average per game.

Arizona was helped by Luke Erickson, who tallied one goal. Erickson scored 14:22 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Evansville. Daymen Rycroft provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Arizona were Samson Mahbod, Kevin Petovello, and Nathan ONabigon, who each chipped in one.

Evansville's Pier-Olivier Pelletier stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The IceMen ended with 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors. For Evansville, Mike Sgroi was ejected from the game. Mike Spillane made 18 saves for the Sundogs on 23 shots. Arizona ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors.
