Allen uses shootout to best Fort Wayne, 3-2 (3-2 SO)

Joshua Hepditch scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Allen picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (3-2 SO) win over the Fort Wayne Komets.

The two teams needed 16 turns to complete the shootout. Fort Wayne got shootout goals from Frankie DeAngelis and Artem Podshendyalov. Allen's other shootout goals were scored by Colton Yellow Horn and Nick Layton.

Allen saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Allen made the score 2-0 on a goal by Trevor Hendrikx at 5:55 in the third period. The Komets evened things up at 2-2 on a goal by Chris Auger at 19:59 in the third period.

Allen got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. With 36 shots on target during the contest, Allen exceeded the 21 shots it averages per game this year.

Allen got a goal from Yellow Horn as well. More assists for Allen came via Matt Register, Jeff Martens, and Layton, who contributed one each.

Fort Wayne put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Allen to score on any of its four power plays. The Komets put 44 shots on net during the contest, more than the 29 they average per game.

Jamie Lovell also scored for Fort Wayne. Other players who recorded assists for Fort Wayne were Bobby Chaumont, who had two and DeAngelis and Brett Smith, who each chipped in one.

Marco Cousineau recorded 42 saves for Allen. Allen ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Fort Wayne's Gerry Festa stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Komets totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
