Tulsa beats Rio Grande Valley 9-6 as Clarke gets hat trick

Dylan Clarke lifted the Tulsa Oilers to a 9-6 victory with a hat trick against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.

Clarke got on the scoresheet 3:20 into the first period. He then added goals at 8:10 into the third and at 17:54 into the third.

Tulsa was particularly efficient on the power play, as it banged in two goals on the advantage.

The 29 shots that the Oilers put on net surpassed Tulsa's average of 24 shots per game this season. The Oilers outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Tulsa averages three goals per contest.

Tulsa also got points from Marty Standish, who also had one goal and one assist, Mike Ullrich, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Gerome Giudice, who also had one goal and one assist, David Solway, who also registered one goal and two assists, Troy Ofukany, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Jeff Terminesi, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Tulsa were Michel Beausoleil, who had one, Tyler Fleck, who had two, Gary Steffes, who had three, and Ryan Cramer, who had four.

Rio Grande Valley put 26 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23 it averages per game. The Killer Bees bested their season scoring average. Rio Grande Valley averages two goals per game. The Killer Bees capitalized on the Oilers' penalties, netting two goals while skating with a man advantage.

Rio Grande Valley was led by Dan Gendur, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Gendur scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 19:13 into the first period to make the score 4-1 Tulsa. The Killer Bees had gotten the advantage when Tulsa's Cramer was sent off for interference. Brandon Campos picked up the assist. Gendur's next tally on the power play made the score 7-6 Tulsa with 13:57 left in the third period. Mike Wilson provided the assist. Rio Grande Valley additionally got points from Campos, who also had one goal and two assists and Tomas Klempa, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Zac Pearson also scored for Rio Grande Valley. More assists for Rio Grande Valley came via Nicolas Rioux, AJ Mikkelsen, Adam Bartholomay, Craig Lineker, and Kirill Startsev, who contributed one each.

Ian Keserich recorded 20 saves for the Oilers. Tulsa incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Rio Grande Valley's starting goalie, John Murray, made 13 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Wylie Rogers, who stopped seven shots. The Killer Bees incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
