South Shore Kings uses shootout to best Springfield Pics, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as South Shore Kings defeated the Springfield Pics Pics in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

South Shore Kings came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. South Shore Kings trailed 4-2 after a goal by Springfield Pics' Matthew Antonacci at 8:50 in the third period. South Shore Kings knotted things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Brandon Yee at 16:34 in the third period.

Alex Erban had two goals and two assists to lead South Shore Kings. Erban scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:01 into the second period to make the score 2-2. South Shore Kings earned a power play opportunity when Logan Schinabeck was put in the box for high sticking. Evan Jacques provided the assist. Erban's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Springfield Pics with 6:52 left in the third period. Gianni Paolo picked up the assist.

South Shore Kings forced the Pics goalie Evan Moorehouse to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. Team could not crack Springfield Pics' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

South Shore Kings additionally got points from Jacques, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for South Shore Kings were Michael DeBuccia and Patrick deMontigny, who contributed one each.

The Pics kept South Shore Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brian Jacobs made 27 saves on 31 shots. Springfield Pics could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Christopher Santaniello, who totaled 12 minutes in penalty time with one minor and one misconduct.

The Pics were led by Garrett Torrico, who had one goal and two assists. Torrico scored 33 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Springfield Pics also got points from Santaniello, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Springfield Pics got a goal from William Smith as well. More assists for Springfield Pics came via Jeremy Wich, who had one.

South Shore Kings incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Moorehouse recorded 39 saves for Springfield Pics. The Pics registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
